Muscle Memory

Stay fresh Recently while I was cleaning my bathroom I accidentally switched the position of my hand soap and my face soap and decided to leave it that way. It never ceases to amaze me how conditioned our bodies and minds can become when we do something over and over. I literally had to wash my hands with face soap for a week! Just kidding, but it really took a lot of mental effort to stop reaching for the hand soap where it used to sit. I guess this type of conditioning or muscle memory can be good in some instances. For example, the other week I went to a self defense class and the officer who taught the class told us that police officers practice taking their gun out of their holsters about 3000 times to gain that muscle memory! Thank goodness it didn't take me that long to remember my hand soap was on the other side!

Anyway, I guess my reason for bringing up this random story is because I think it's important to break out of that type of conditioning sometimes to help keep your mind fresh and in tune with the present moment. So today I encourage you to try something different and break a habit or do something simple like take a different route to work or brush your teeth with your opposite hand. This can help you be more aware and break free from our robot-like ways that we sometimes get used to without even knowing it! Unless it's to your advantage like the cops do with their guns. Don't be a mindless robot people! :)

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!
